Using data to find love
Matrimonial apps won’t release any data they have, why would they, it is against their best interests. So, I thought I might do some competition analysis, and while I was at it I thought I would do some more analysis.
Here are some of the observations specific to the UK:
- One would’ve thought these apps would be better than dating apps but they are not.
- For Indians in the UK, the ratio of men to women is 1.92. For me, being tall, it becomes 2.28.
- The above is for gross numbers. Factor in preferences like height, physical attraction, compatibility, vibe match, caste (yes, it is 2024 but Indians are still living in the 1900s), dietary preferences, salary, profession, education, and location, and it might become more difficult than clearing the toughest entrance exams.
- And given that only a few men would be considered “eligible” or “well settled”, they would be the ones getting most of the requests.
- Thus for a man, it is better to get married before you move out or find someone from India. Finding someone is more difficult than clearing the UK PLAB2 exam for Doctors
- Indian men need to consider women located in India.
- Sharma ji ka beta will also struggle here, even if he may have won the World Cup! Good thing, he’s married.
- Yes, that’s it. It is impossible for me to find love. Sed Lyf. The struggle is riyal. Single ladies, slide into my DMs. Married ladies, you don’t have to ask your husbands, slide into my DMs, and share details of your single girl friends.
Read on to see other insights.
Dietary preferences between men and women in the UK
- 69% of men are non vegetarians, 75% of women are non-vegetarians.
- I was surprised that more women are non-vegetarians.
- It could also mean that men are hiding the fact that they are non-vegetarians. (I know a couple of such men.)
- Is it the vegetarians making more noise or are Indians closeted non-vegetarians?
Who manages the profiles for Indians in the UK?
- No surprises here. The majority of men manage their profiles themselves.
- And majority of women have their profiles managed by their parents or relatives. A clear indication of parents being overprotective, or not trusting that their daughters are capable of making the most important decision of their lives.
- Women are okay with marrying the man of their parents’ dreams.
What are the common professions of Indians in the UK?
- Common professions are IT, Finance, Corporate, Engineering, Healthcare.
- There are more women than men in Healthcare, Education and Sciences.
Where are the Indians living in the UK?
- Men prefer London over other places and women are more open to living elsewhere in the UK.
- Some also set London as their location even though they might not live there as it becomes easy to find matches.
What are the major languages spoken by Indians in the UK
- For men, Gujarati speakers are competing with Hindi speakers.
- I was surprised by how many Gujaratis are here in the UK.
- Gujarati parents are not open to sending their daughters outside of India.
Global distribution of Indians (top countries)
- The US is the most popular place followed by Canada, Australia, UK, Germany, and UAE.
- Women prefer the UK over other non US locations by a huge margin.
- Women prefer Germany lesser.
Note on data:
- Data were collected from matrimonial app/s (?).
- It is difficult to prove the accuracy of data, but what I have found is that if there are any errors, then they are consistent. Additionally, some people falsify data for reasons known to them but they might be so small that it should not impact the results.
- Age range: 28-34 years.
- This is not scientific in any manner, and not intended for any research but the post throws some light on the situation.
P.S. I hope this ends up on r/ArrangedMarriage :3
